Why did I start a team? There probably a lot of people in our industry and community that wonder what inspired me to create a team.
I got into real estate first and foremost for my son. I wanted to be able to provide him a comfortable life. Being laid off from a previous employer, I had nothing to lose getting into real estate.
My goal getting into real estate was to make a living, however my BIG WHY has changed many times in the last couple years. In 2014 I found myself lost, lonely, with a poor quality of life, and overly stressed. Yes I ranked as the #1 agent in the State of Kentucky with my previous franchise with 142 transactions with just me and one assistant but I found myself missing something. It was awesome to be on top but in the end, the joke was on me.
Having all this new found success by myself was VERY VERY LONELY. What I had wished for had become way too much. Working long hours had taken a toll on me physically and mentally, as well as pulled me away from my son. Sure I’m proud of myself and it’s made me who I am today, but I knew I couldn’t sustain that level of craziness. My customers never complained or suffered but my home life and freedom did. I could no longer patchwork things together. I needed people, models, and systems for these large dreams I had.
I had to drop the EGO, get a coach, and realize I couldn’t do it all. I began to also realize that my production had topped out so I needed to put people around me to grow with me. WE HAVE DONE JUST THAT. It’s not “l” anymore it’s WE. We deliver superior service to our clients that I never could have given my clients on my own. Each team member we have surrounded ourselves with has the same passion and painted the Big Picture in their minds too. They push the Team and me. I always want to be sure their circle of life gets as big as they want it and by them doing that I make sure my circle is big enough for their circle. We have no ceiling. We do things for the good of the team not the good of ourselves. We have all made decisions to do what we do best on the team and let the other team members do what they do best.
We have only been a team for a year and we all have so much excitement on what else we will do together. I feel like we haven’t even truly started this year we have just been building the foundation for the leaders we will develop. Now that means so much more to me than what I was doing by myself, it’s so much more meaningful, fun, and interesting as a team. I take great pleasure in seeing team members grow and blossom.
Sure we make mistakes, we are all human, but one thing we do well as a team is learn and improve from our mistakes. We are always trying to become better people in real estate and at home. We have just begun reading “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork”, and one of my favorite sentences in the book so far is “If you have a BIG DREAM you need a team to do it”.
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK.
