Just like some of the other members on the team, I never thought I would find myself in
real estate. Honestly, it never even crossed my mind as a possibility when I was
graduating from high school. Living the first 23 years of my life in Pennsylvania, I found
myself in Owensboro after graduating from WVU with a Master’s degree. I wanted to
work in college athletics with the dream of being an Athletic Director at THE University
I moved here around last July into what I thought would be the start of my new career
and my new life. That wasn’t the case. I enjoyed the people I worked with but started to
slowly find out the event management industry wasn’t for me. I didn’t have a great work-
life balance and felt like I was missing out on too much while spending 12 hours at work
on a Saturday. Luckily for me, I was able to change that.
When I first moved here it was tough to meet people. I’m sure most people have
experienced that same feeling if they have ever packed up and moved 9 hours from home,
not knowing a soul. I was fortunate enough to meet Robbie about two months after
moving here. He was new to real estate as the team was just starting from the ground up.
We maintained contact and became pretty good friends over the course of the past year
(basically we kept TGI Friday’s and Buffalo Wild Wings in business). Through him, I
casually started meeting more members of the team. I’ll admit it, I was jealous of the
team. You could tell they were part of something special, something bigger than just
surviving for 40 hours a week, only to wake up two days later and start the process all
over again. I wanted to be a part of it, I wanted what they had.
Robbie asked me to meet up with him for lunch a few months back and talked to me
about joining the team. He mentioned they were looking for another ISA and before he
could even finish his sentence I told him I was in. After a few meetings with Kelly and
interviewing with about 7 members of the team (not intimidating at all), I had the
privilege of joining the team.
Fast forward to today and I’m about to hit my two month mark with the team. I can
honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made. With that being said, it was
also one of the hardest. Just like everyone else on the team though, I took a leap to be a
part of something bigger. I’ll end this with a quote from my favorite head coach that says
a lot about the team and even more about our team leader, Kelly Anne Harris: “Attack
each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.” – Jim Harbaugh
Thank you Kelly and thank you everyone on the team who has given me this opportunity.
